Physics Message from the Chair

Physics is challenging, but it develops critical thinking skills and ability for rigorous investigation of the definitions, assumptions, and context of physical and mathematical structures. Majoring in Physics can be a start to a career in physical sciences, but also can be an opportunity to enter a variety of other fields, such as engineering, finance, medical physics, oceanography, meteorology, computer science, technical management, and science teaching.

Physics Pre-Engineering Partnership with Engineering Programs at UNO

Exciting news for Engineering students: Loyola's Pre-Engineering Physics program has established a partnership with Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering programs at the University of New Orleans.

Students enrolled in the 3+2 Pre-Engineering Physics program will complete three years of courses at Loyola before transferring to UNO to complete the engineering degree of their choice. After receiving an Engineering degree from UNO, Loyola will confer their second undergraduate degree - a B.S. in Physics.

Biophysics Pre-Health

When people asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up, you never knew whether to say doctor or scientist. Astronaut or surgeon. You’re fascinated with the universe and all its questions, and you have a passion for studying medicine or saving lives.

Bachelor of Science in Physics

Einstein. Newton. Hawking. Bohr. And you. These are the people who dare to say that our world, full of strange phenomena and seemingly unpredictable processes, is explainable.

Physicists investigate and articulate the laws that govern our universe—from the largest scales of the entire cosmos, to the smallest subatomic particles, and everything in between. The great geniuses of physics have pushed the understanding of our universe forward. At Loyola University New Orleans, we’ll give you the tools you need to be part of that adventure.
