Department of Biological Sciences

Mission Statement

Biology provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes a deeper understanding of major biological principles and concepts; that develops critical thinking, quantitative, and communication skills; that instills a life-long interest in learning; and that prepares graduates for rewarding and productive careers in the medical and life sciences.

The Department provides students with experiences, training, and tools needed to critically evaluate existing and emerging knowledge and to contribute to this body of knowledge. Towards this end, the Department is committed to supporting original faculty research and scholarship in collaboration with students.
