Programming
The Environment program hosts a variety of programs during the academic year designed to engage the entire Loyola community in environmental issues and to help improve sustainability efforts on campus. Environment students have the opportunity to participate and lead programming, gaining valuable field experience, meeting with experts in the industry, and making an impact in the New Orleans community.
Earth Week
Earth Week is a campus-wide celebration dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. Throughout the week, students can participate in interactive events, educational activities, and hands-on experiences that highlight the importance of protecting our natural environment. It’s an opportunity to learn, get involved, and take meaningful action for a healthier, more sustainable future.
Environmental Roundtable Series
Loyola’s Environmental Roundtables bring students, faculty, and community experts together for open conversations about today’s most pressing environmental issues. These discussions offer a collaborative space to share ideas, explore solutions, and deepen understanding of how environmental challenges impact our community and campus.
World Cleanup Day
World Cleanup Day brings the community together to take direct action in creating a cleaner campus and community. In partnership with local universities, students work side-by-side to clean up shared spaces and better understand the impact of waste in our community. It’s a meaningful way to support our environment and build community.
National Recycle Day
National Recycle Day celebrates our campus’s commitment to reducing waste and protecting the planet. Students are encouraged to learn more about our on-campus recycling efforts, discover easy ways to make sustainable choices, and take part in reducing their environmental footprint.
Academic Programs
Loyola's Environment program offers three majors and a minor:
- BS in Environmental Science
- BA in Environmental Studies (Humanities)
- BA in Environmental Studies (Social Science)
- Minor in Environmental Studies
All programs are designed to provide students with a broad exposure to different perspectives on environmental issues, while also allowing students to specialize within certain disciplines to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Campus Facilities
As an interdisciplinary program, students in the Environment Program have access to a variety of hands-on learning spaces on campus, including research laboratories and Azby Greenhouse located on the roof of Monroe Hall. Students may also have the opportunity to participate in undergraduate research at off-campus locations like Jean Lafitte National Park, Lake Pontchartrain, Mississippi River Delta Wildlife Refuge, and various locations along the Gulf Coast and elsewhere.
