Chemistry Programs of Study
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Loyola University New Orleans offers four different programs of study leading to a bachelor of science degree.
Although requirements differ, each track is comprised of rigorous course work in chemistry with supporting classes in mathematics, physics, and biology. Chemistry students also enroll in Loyola Core general education classes. Undergraduate research is an additional key component of each chemistry student's education. We encourage chemistry majors to join a research group early in their Loyola career.
Biology Research Seminars
The Department of Biological Sciences at Loyola University New Orleans invites prominent regional, national, and international scientists to visit our campus and present seminars describing their biological research.
Research seminars are scheduled on Tuesdays at 12:30–1:30 p.m. in Monroe 610 unless noted otherwise. Below is a list of our upcoming and past research seminars.
Biology Facilities
Collaborate and Investigate
The Department of Biological Sciences occupies the fourth and fifth floors of Monroe Hall. Both our teaching and research laboratories feature state-of-the-art equipment for safely studying and investigating the form, function, and diversity of microbes, plants, and animals.

Biological Sciences Minor
Overview of Minor
Biological Sciences is a great minor for students interested in a deeper understanding of the diversity of living organisms or obtaining the prerequisites necessary for training in a variety of health and environmentally related fields. Contact the chair of Biological Sciences to find out more about minoring in biology. The requirements for a minor in Biological Sciences are:
Bachelor of Science in Biology
Overview of Courses
In your first two years, you’ll take the six core biology courses. These classes include labs in addition to lectures so that as you learn the fundamental concepts of the biological sciences, you’ll also get some hands-on field experiences.
Biological Sciences Concentrations
Students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences may choose from several different concentrations, as well as honors versions of these concentrations offered in partnership with the University Honors Program.
Biology Programs of Study
The undergraduate program in biology at Loyola University New Orleans provides an outstanding modern science education with required courses in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and statistics. In addition, the program stresses a well-rounded liberal arts education in which non-science courses make up approximately half of the curriculum.
