Message from the Chemistry Department Chair
Welcome to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Chemists and biochemists study molecules. Molecules make up practically everything around us and in us. So, in a way, chemists and biochemists study everything. And at Loyola, we undertake those studies with our undergraduate students by our sides.
Chemistry Alumni Updates
Where do our graduating students go?
This is not an exhaustive list of alumni from the Chemistry Department at Loyola University New Orleans, but is meant to give students a general idea of the different programs or employment into which our students have been accepted.

Chemistry Facilities
Chemistry faculty and students at Loyola University New Orleans have access to a wide array of state-of-the-art instrumentation.
This sophisticated equipment is used not only in coursework but also during collaborative undergraduate research activities to characterize materials or to quantify analytes by a variety of spectroscopic, chromatographic, thermometric and electrochemical methods. Through the university library, students have access to online chemical databases and major chemistry journals.
Chemistry Minors
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers two minors:
Chemistry
The minor in chemistry consists of 22 hours of chemistry which includes General Chemistry with lab (eight hours), Organic Chemistry with lab (eight hours), and six additional hours in chemistry at or above the 300 level. CHEM A486 credits will not count toward the minor.
Bachelor of Science in Forensic Chemistry
So you’ve figured it out. Deduced it. You’ve found your inner Sherlock, your inner Abby, and you’re compelled to discover the truth…with science.
