It is a transcript annotation that recognizes course work in English that prepares students for a career in publishing. It can be combined with progress toward a BA in English or another field. To earn the certificate at least five courses in total are required.

At least three courses from the list below may count towards the certificate:

Philosopher Kids

If you enjoy working with children, then join Philosopher Kids! Philosopher Kids is a program aimed at engaging elementary school-aged children in philosophical conversations through literature, games, and art.

Founded by Dr. Jon Altschul, Philosopher Kids is inspired by Dr. Thomas E. Wartenberg’s book, Big Idea as for Little Kids: Teaching Philosophy through Children's Literature. Once a week, our members visit Holy Name of Jesus School to work with their class of third-graders.

Biology Undergraduate Research and Departmental Honors

Biology majors are encouraged to engage in original research as part of their training and preparation for graduate school, professional school, and entry into the life sciences workforce. Majors may work directly with Loyola faculty or with scientists at other institutions around the world.

Biology faculty maintain active research programs and are enthusiastic about collaborating with undergraduate students. Indeed, in contrast to larger universities with graduate programs, Loyola faculty rely heavily upon undergraduates!
