Achievements

David Garcia, Junior Psychology Major, was chosen to participate in the Research Experience for Undergraduates at the Disaster Research Center (DRC), sponsored by the University of Delaware. The program is funded by the NSF, the United States Department of Defense, and the University of Delaware.

Corey Phillips, Senior Psychology major, and Dr. Erin Dupuis, Assistant Professor in Psychological Sciences, presented work at the 12th Annual Society for Personality and Social Psychology conference in San Antonio.

Dr. Kim Ernst of the Department of Psychological Sciences was awarded the University Senate Excellence in Teaching award on January 21, 2011. Dr. Ernst was also recognized for her extraordinary teaching in 2002 when she received the Humanities and Natural Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award.

Dr. Erin Dupuis, Department of Psychological Sciences, has received a 2011 Marquette Fellowship. The Fellowship provides a stipend of $7500 for summer research.

On December 8, 2010, six Psychology majors presented their research at the Psychology Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Brittany Chavez, a Psychology and Criminal Justice double major, was awarded $4,000 to study in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, for the Spring 2011 semester. She will be studying Philosophy, Religion and Sociology while enrolled at the American University in Bulgaria.

Dr. Karen M. Rodrigue '96 was selected to receive the K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award. The five-year, two-phase grant totals just under $1 million. It comes from the National Institute on Aging.

Janet R. Matthews, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Loyola University New Orleans, recently attended The Education Leadership Conference, an invitation only conference sponsored by the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Janet Matthews has been appointed as one of the four delegates from the American Psychological Association to an inter-organizational task force, which will consider the entire training process in professional psychology.

Allegra Hartman and David Garcia present their research on body image, disordered eating patterns, and identity development of college students at two conferences.
