Achievements

Dr. Trimiko Melancon, an assistant professor of English and faculty in African and African American Studies, has been awarded a prestigious 2012 Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation Career Enhancement Fellowship.

Biology alumni, Juan Calix wins University of Alabama Birmingham's "Samuel B. Barker Award" for Excellence in Graduate Studies at the Doctoral Level. This award is given each spring to one Ph.D. student and one Masters student, both of whom expect to receive their degrees within the calendar year.

Tom Sevick, an environmental science major at Loyola University New Orleans, was recently awarded $2,500 from the Louisiana Sea Grant Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program to conduct collaborative research with Dr. Frank Jordan.

Dr. Ladd presents research at the Southern Sociological Society meetings, Dillard University conference, and at the Midwest Sociological Society meetings.

Dr. Evan Zucker, professor of Psychological Sciences has been elected the new Vice-President of the Southwest Region of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society for Psychology.

Congratulations to Psychological Sciences major Amy Sprout, whose senior research work won the award for best undergraduate poster presentation in the Social Sciences division of the Louisiana Academy of Sciences (LSA).

In March, 2012, Ranmali DeSilva presented research findings on improving Hurricane Evacuation Practices in New Orleans to City Council members

Dr. Patricia Dorn and her co-authors' article on Chagas disease, which shows that kissing bugs in California and Arizona are both infected with the Chagas parasite and have fed on humans will be published and highlighted on March 14 in the 'Emerging Infections Diseases' journal.

Dr. Barnes and Biology alumna, Michele Abbene, who is currently studying at the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale University publish paper on litter decomposition.
