Teacher Education

Loyola’s sequence in secondary education allows students to apply for certification in grades 6-12. The courses are integrated with the student’s major and general education courses. When students graduate, they will receive a degree in the major (either Classical Studies [Latin], English [Literature or Writing], Mathematics, Modern Foreign Language [French or Spanish], Science [Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or Environmental Science], or Social Studies [History]), and be ready to apply for a teaching certificate from the state of Louisiana.

University Honors Program

Qualified students are invited to apply to the University Honors Program, which offers challenging courses and cultural and intellectual enrichment activities that are open to students of all undergraduate colleges and majors. Students are required to maintain a 3.3 overall grade point average to qualify.

Pre-Law

Students in the College of Arts & Sciences who wish to attempt early admission into the College of Law after three years must have completed all but the last 30 hours of their degree program, including all Common Curriculum, major, named adjunct, and foreign language requirements. The first 30 hours earned in law school will be applied as general elective credits for completion of the undergraduate degree.

Pre-Health

Pre-Health is a track that students choose to identify an intent to pursue a career in a health-related field. Health professional schools include dentistry, medicine, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, nursing, veterinary medicine, physician assistant studies, and many more. As a Pre-Health student, you will have guidance and resources to successfully fulfill prerequisite courses to matriculate into respective programs. Pre-Health offers hands-on advising and student organizations to ensure students are prepared for their designated career goals.

Engineering

The 3+2 Pre-Engineering Physics program allows students to earn two degrees, in physics and in engineering, in five years. The first three years are the physics courses at Loyola and then the last two years are the engineering courses at another institution. Loyola has agreements with the engineering programs at UNO and at Catholic University of America. Interested students should talk to the Chair of the Physics Department.

Interdisciplinary Programs + Minors

The College of Arts & Sciences offers minors within each department, in addition to the 12 Interdisciplinary majors and minors that are available.  Interdisciplinary programs is an expanding field for Loyola, offering students the option of focusing on a subject, while viewing it from multiple disciplines.
