At the Keep Louisiana Beautiful conference in September 2025, Dr. Aimée K. Thomas presented “Keeping Waste Out of the Landfill during Campus Move-Out Days,” highlighting how strategic partnerships can reduce waste while supporting community needs. Her presentation emphasized the importance of collaboration between universities, local organizations, and nonprofits to identify reusable goods, collect them efficiently, and redistribute them where they are most needed. Dr. Thomas shared examples of successful partnership models and spotlighted community organizations that benefit from these efforts, alongside data showcasing the significant quantities of items diverted from landfills. By extending these initiatives beyond higher education, her talk aimed to raise awareness, inspire broader adoption, and encourage new collaborations that keep valuable resources in circulation while reducing environmental impact.
