Abigail Reviel (Biological Sciences ’24, ) pursuing a PhD in Analytical Chemistry at the University of South Carolina

Abigail "Rae" Reviel's doctoral research investigates halocyclopentadienes (HCPDs), a newly identified class of drinking water disinfection byproducts that are significantly more toxic than currently regulated chemicals and have the potential to bioaccumulate. Through a nationwide study supported by the National Science Foundation, she is measuring the presence of HCPDs in treatment systems and uncovering how these contaminants form. Ultimately, this work aims to guide future engineering solutions and public health policies to ensure safer, more sustainable drinking water.
