Keep Louisiana Beautiful Grant supports the Loyola Wolf Pack Move-Out
Mark Tobler, Research Associate in Biological Sciences, has secured $4,800 from Keep Louisiana Beautiful to support the Loyola Wolf Pack Move-Out: A Sustainable Way To Reduce Waste program. College students generate, on average, 640 pounds of waste annually. Since starting the Wolf Pack Move-out a couple of years ago, the program has found that there are a lot of gently used dorm necessities that can be collected and put back into use. For example, last year during the Wolf Pack Move-Out, the group collected 289 bags of clothes (3,900 pounds (1.95 tons!) including over 2,000 pairs of jeans), 243 pounds of non-perishable food, and 156 pounds of Mardi Gras beads (donated to ARC New Orleans for re-use). Loyola students will collect, sort, weigh, and manage the distribution of reusable items.
