Saige Berthelot, a first-year student majoring in political science, won for placing 3rd in the overall Oral Presentation in Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts Division competition in 2026's LSU Discovery Day, an annual undergraduate conference. Ms. Berthelot's presentation was titled "Platonic Parallels."

Ms. Berthelot writes, "I wanted to reach out to express how grateful I am to be an undergraduate here. Professors such as Dr. White, Dr. Melcher, Dr. Berendzen, and the whole Political Science and Philosophy department have contributed to my success thus far. My first semester as a freshman, I was able to start this research project with their help, and being able to present at a conference and place is something I realize is such a unique opportunity- and I owe it all to this wonderful university!"
