Bio

A large part of my job is coordinating many of the aspects of onboarding new students entering Loyola New Orleans each Fall and Spring:

  • Managing the new-student advising team; organizing CAS chairs, and confirming CAS supplemental advisors; requesting systems access on behalf of new summer advisors, and providing training to same.
  • Creating and updating the summer advising directory, handbook, contact lists, calendars, webpages, bookmarks, and spreadsheets for distribution of new information for a given term to the new-student advising team members across CAS, the College of Business, the College of Music and Media, the Pan-American Life Student Success Center (SSC), and Pre-Nursing.
  • Working with Admissions and OIRE to update the summer advising survey and related queries including new deposits themselves, plus the identification of Advanced Placement awardees  (AP, IB, CLEP, Dantes, and Cambridge) and First-years with Credit, as well as Slate to Colleague transition errors for correction by the University Registrar.
  • Creating and updating an Admissions Counselor cheat-sheet and sample-schedules look-book to assist with understanding the academic processes and contacts.
  • Working with Athletics to align available course-times for new incoming athletes with the team practice-schedules.
  • Distributing new-deposit/advisee info to advisors during the fall and spring registration periods; making, updating, and deleting advisor assignments for CAS; flowing change of Major and Withdrawal information to the Registrar, Admissions, the SSC, and the other colleges as appropriate; enforcing key dates, and gatekeeping appropriate systems access for students around the registration-agreement; and registering each Fall’s Social Justice Scholars into their required course.
  • Managing the ALEKS math assessment for students of all three colleges including general administration and annual maintenance.
  • Reviewing CAS and other courses for appropriate restrictions and requisite info for 1st-year reserved courses; in conjunction with the library, ensuring that the LORA 101 tutorial is added to new-student accounts; attending our two Wolf Pack Ready days each summer, and more!

Additional work I do includes:

  • Identifying and creating opportunities and initiatives, and managing same in conjunction with the CAS Technical Advisor.
  • Helping develop, review, enforce, and document curricular requirements and academic regulations for campus-based students.
  • Creating content and serving as a Drupal web-editor for various web-presences including CAS Forms Online and the New-student onboarding page.
  • Assisting in the coordination, review, and correction of fall, spring, and summer course-offerings with the Registrar’s office and CAS academic departments.
  • Training faculty and staff on advising and academic processes, and resolving issues for and with same.
  • Training faculty, staff, and students to utilize Ellucian Colleague’s Degree-audit/Progress and resolving issues for and with same
  • Managing the college’s processes for researching and articulating transfer credit for prospective students.
  • In conjunction with CIE, manage the college’s study-abroad process, including review, approval, and articulation of study-abroad credits.
  • Reviewing and advising regarding 2nd Major and Minor requests.
  • Managing the college’s processes around requesting and making degree-requirement substitutions and alterations.
  • Managing the college’s consortium processes including reviewing and approving cross-enrollment requests.
  • Managing the college’s graduation processes including coordinating dual-diplomas with other colleges; auditing students' records, and recommending successful candidates for certification of graduation.
