Dr. Leopoldo Tablante presented at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. about Mambo and fashion trends in the USA in the 1950s.

French major, Faelynn Carroll, has been awarded the prestigious Gilman scholarship for study abroad in Senegal this summer.

Michaela Kametani-Rider, 2012 graduate with a major in Spanish and Philosophy, awarded a 2012 Sigma Delta Pi Undergraduate Study Abroad Award.

Congratulations to Dr. Uriel Quesada, who was named an American Council of Education (ACE) Fellow for academic year 2012-13.

Languages and Cultures alumnus, Timothy J. Prosser ’87, Esq. served as chair of the 2011 National Conference on Philanthropic Planning, held in San Antonio on October 4 – 6, 2011.

Fr. Farge has published a book review of Fuminobu Murakami's, The Strong and the Weak in Japanese Literature: Discrimination, egalitarianism, nationalism (London and New York: Routledge, 2010) in the Journal of Japanese Studies. The book review is forthcoming this winter.

Andre Lebeau, French and Spanish major (2012), was the recipient of two competitive awards: The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and the Annette Kade Scholarship for Study in Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland.

Brianna Powell, Spanish and Psychology graduate (2011), was awarded a study abroad scholarship from the Foundation for Global Scholars.

Graduating senior Elizabeth Kroll (Biological Sciences major and Spanish minor) received one of ten nationally competitive scholarships to study Spanish for four weeks at the Universidad Internacional/The Center for Bilingual Multicultural Studies in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

Graduating senior Winnie Yu (English Writing major and Latin American Studies minor) received one of two nationally competitive scholarships to study Spanish for several weeks over the summer at the Estudio Internacional Sampere in Cuenca, Ecuador.
