Achievements

Fr. William Farge, S.J., was awarded a Bobet Fellowship (Summer 2015) for completion of his book "A Christian Samurai: The Trials of Baba Bunko." 
 

Dr. Eileen Doll's New Book Los inmigrantes en la escena española contemporánea: Buscando una nueva identidad española released in 2014.

Trevor Boffone, a Languages and Cultures alumnus from 2008, taught French and Spanish in New Orleans schools.

He received his Ph.D. in Chicano Contemporary Theatre at the University of Houston (TX) in December 2015. ¡Felicitaciones, Dr. Boffone!

Leopoldo Tablante, visiting assistant professor of languages and cultures, recently published an analysis of the commercial evolution of salsa music from its origins in the Latino barrios of New York City, its intensive commercialization and exploitation in the US and the Caribbean mainly by the independent group Fania throughout the 1970s, and its more recent incorporation to the catalogue of major global labels such as Sony Music.

Dr. Lisbeth Philip, Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Languages and Cultures, presented a paper entitled Las innovaciones léxico-semánticas en el uso de las malas palabras en Venezuela at the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Linguistic Association of the Southwest (LASSO). San Diego, CA. September 20, 2014.

Natalie Jones (Theatre Arts/Spanish 2014) received the Magis Outstanding Achievement in Service Learning Award in May 2014 for her work with Project Lazarus. ¡Felicitaciones, Natalia!

Savannah Logan (Computational Math and Modern Languages and Cultures/Spanish-14) awarded a 2014-15 Fulbright U.S. Student Award to teach English and pursue an independent project in Spain

'Time Commences in Xibalbá' by Luis de Lión, translated by Nathan C. Henne, tells the story of a violent village crisis in Guatemala sparked by the return of a prodigal son, Pascual. Dr. Henne translated, edited and wrote a critical introduction to the novel.
