Dr. Lisbeth Philip, Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Languages and Cultures, was selected to present a paper at the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese annual conference in San Antonio, Texas. On July 8, 2013, Dr. Philip and Loyola service learning director Kelly Brotzman presented the results of study they conducted together which analyzed social justice and diversity outcomes in Spanish service learning courses. They compared these outcomes to non-Spanish courses and also examined the role that direct and indirect service activities play in producing these outcomes. Philip and Brotzman’s presentation was featured in one of several AATSP sessions highlighting the burgeoning role of service learning and community engagement in language teaching.
