Keaton Postler, History junior, has received a prestigious SHEAR/Mellon Fellowship to work on his thesis this summer at the McNeil Center for Early American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Mirya Holman, (2004 Loyola graduate in Political Science and History), recently received her Ph.D from Claremont Graduate University. Mirya is currently teaching at Florida Atlantic University.

History professor, Dr. Cook, was accepted by the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies (CAHS) of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum to participate in a faculty seminar in June for professors, who teach courses and do research on the Holocaust.

History alumna, Eileen Guillory, a Social Studies teacher at the private girls' school--McGehee's, was awarded the McGehee's Jane Pharr Community Service Award.

The Department of History recognizes Dr. Mark Fernandez, Professor of Early American and Southern History at Loyola University New Orleans and President of the Louisiana Historical Association for his recent publication.

Charles Hollis, a history senior, will represent Loyola University New Orleans at this year's Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society Conference.

Melissa Smith, a New Orleans-based archivist, historian, and sportswriter, runs a blog that was recently picked up as a regular feature for the Huffington Post.

Justin Nystrom, visiting assistant professor of history, produced documentaries with his first year students.

Jonathan Tenney, Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of History, was recently recognized with an Outstanding U.S. Dissertation Prize by The American Academic Research Institute in Iraq for his work, “Life on the Bottom of Babylonian Society.”

Dr. Nystrom's book, New Orleans after the Civil War: Race, Politics, and a New Birth of Freedom will appear at the end of March, 2010 from the Johns Hopkins University Press and will debut at the annual meeting of the Organization of American Historians in early April.
