Smith, who received her bachelor of arts in history with a specialty in African American history and women's history, spends most of her days combing through New Orleans Saints websites, relishing in the Saints 2009 miraculous season. Smith received her master of arts in history from the University of New Orleans with a focus on the Jim Crow era in New Orleans. Her first book, Historic Photos of New Orleans, was published in 2007 to positive reviews. She currently works as a consultant for Levees.org, a New Orleans-based watchdog organization and performs archival organizing and historical writing for individuals and organizations. Other than stalking the Saints, Melissa loves spending time with her five-year old son, James and volunteers for the Louisiana State Museum.
