Achievements

Chris Backes, a recent Loyola graduate and philosophy major, has published a review in the journal Review of Metaphysics. Chris is currently a graduate student in the School of Philosophy at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Anthony Rizzi ’19, a student in the Environment Program, attended the 2016 annual American Public Health Association (APHA) conference in Denver, CO.

Loyola Biology Alum David B. Reeves (BS’ 12) co-authored an article with mentor Dr. Frank Jordan, a professor in the Biology Department titled “Response of Imperiled Okaloosa Darters to Stream Restoration.” North American Journal of Fisheries Management 36:1375–1385, 2016. Dr. Rousseau's research on the Bose-Hubbard model on a triangular lattice with diamond ring-exchange was recently published in Physical Review B.

NEW ORLEANS (July 5, 2016) – Parkway Partners today announced that Dr. Bob Thomas will receive the organization’s annual Green Spirit Award at its Feast With Leah gala on Oct. 9, as two legends and a legendary event join forces.

Ilyes Benslimane was recently published in Bioscience Reports for his contributions to the paper "ApoE deficiency promotes colon inflammation and enhances the inflammatory potential of oxidized LDL and TNF-α in primary colon epithelial cells." Ilyes worked under Louisiana State University Professor, Dr. Hamid Boulares, at the Louisiana Cancer Research Center.

The students of Mu Kappa chapter of Sigma Delta Pi (national Spanish honor society) held a successful Latin American Festival on Friday, October 14, 2016. The idea behind the festival was to educate the Loyola community about Latin American culture through a celebration of diversity. Proceeds will go to the non-profit organization Family Justice Center Women’s Empowerment Group (Latina survivors of domestic violence). The afternoon was filled with music, dance, food from Latin America, and readings of Latin American poetry.

Dr. Paul W. Barnes, Professor of Biological Sciences and the Environment Program and J.H. Mullahy Chair in Environmental Biology recently participated in a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) meeting in Ioannina, Greece to prepare a scientific assessment on the environmental effects of ozone depletion and climate change.  Dr.

Rob Verchick, Loyola Law Professor and the Environment Program, accompanied several environmental law students on a bicycle tour through Cancer Alley. Our guides were Anne Rolfes and Iris Carter, a former resident of the town of Diamond. Our route was also the site of an 1811 slave rebellion, which to this day inspires the activism of residents from Norco to St. Rose. See the slideshow on video.
