Achievements

Mr. Mackenzie McMillan (B.A. 2013--Political Science, minors in History & Asian Studies) was admitted to the Japan Studies M.A. program at University of Washington where he was awarded the FLAS Fellowship for the 2016-2017 school year for Japanese language study. He was also accepted at the Social Policy and Development Program (NGOs) at the London School of Economics. Congratulations, Mackenzie!
 

Dr. Isabel Durocher received the Faculty Excellence in Teaching from the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences, 2016. ¡Felicitaciones, Dra. Durocher!

Sociology major Naja Pulliam Collins '16  was selected as a finalist for a Fulbright English Teaching award in Malaysia. With the grant, she will travel to Malaysia in January 2017 to teach English and to act as a cultural ambassador of the United States.

During her time at Loyola, Naja, who also earned minors in African and African American Studies and English was involved with several student organizations and experiential learning initiatives, for example serving as co-president of Students Against Hyper-Incarceration and studying abroad in Botswana.
 

Recent alumus, Donnie Palliser '15 has been promoted to Executive Lieutenant to the Patrol Division.  In his new role he will oversee the K-9 and Highway Interdiction Unit. Exec. Lieutenant Palliser has 25 years of law enforcement experience with 23 years being with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.  He graduated cum lauded from Loyola in 2015 with a Bachelor in Criminal Justice and a minor in Forensics.  He is continuing his education at Loyola currently enrolled in the Masters of Criminal Justice program.

Philosophy major Thanh Mai completed an internship this summer (2016) with the New Orleans Citizens Diplomacy Council (NOCDC). The NOCDC collaborates with organizations such as the  Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to help promote mutual understanding between the United States and other countries.

Rachel Comeaux was awarded the Dux Sociologicus Award, Dan Parker was awarded the Jerrol M. Seaman "Spirit of Gemeinschaft" Award, and Ashlyn Haycook was awarded the Social Justice Scholarship Award for Outstanding Community Activism. All awards were presented at the College of Social Sciences Honors Convocation on May 20, 2016

Emeritus philosophy professor John Clark's new book The Tragedy of Common Sense has just been published by Changing Suns Press.

Sonya F. Duhé, Ph.D., director of the prize-winning School of Mass Communication at Loyola University New Orleans, is serving as the 2017-18 President of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication, ASJMC.

ASJMC is a non-profit, educational organization, composed of some 190 journalism and mass communication programs from colleges mostly in the United States and Canada.
