Achievements

Loyola alumnus Peter Falanga ‘12 works for the Portlandia Art Department, which recently won its second Emmy Award for Outstanding Production Design. Falanga has worked on the show for the past four seasons and currently serves as the Art Department Coordinator.

Assistant Professor of Philosophy Leonard Kahn participated in a panel discussion on research in the humanities, designed to help honors students who are writing senior theses in philosophy, English, and religious studies. The panel discussion was on 10/6/16.

The John P. Clark Papers is a fascinating collection consisting primarily of correspondence and publications. These materials include correspondence with political thinkers and book publishers, independently published political pamphlets and zines, and serial periodicals such as “Our Generation”. The collection also contains a small number of flyers, microfilm reels, and reel-to-reel audio recordings.

Dr. Michael Kelly was an invited speaker at two research conferences held in Brazil during the month of July, 2016. He presented a lecture entitled "Index bounds for complexes associated to limit groups" at the meeting Nielsen Theory and Related Topics, July 4-9, Rio Claro, SP.

He also lectured on "Free groups and fixed points of homotopy idempotents" at the XXth Encontro Brasileiro de Topologia, July 11-16, Curitiba, PR.
 

Members of DIVEST Loyola gathered on Tuesday, October 4,2016 with other campus community members supportive of the group’s divestment advocacy goals.

Nicholas Armstrong (Political Science major/Spanish minor 2015) notified us that after graduation from Loyola, he began work with a non-profit in Houston, TX, Avenue Community Development Corporation. According to Nicholas, "especializa en proveer alojamiento para personas de bajo y de medio ingreso." Nicholas also received a Sigma Delta Pi scholarship to study in Cuba in summer 2014.

Congratulations to Uriel Quesada, Letitia Gomez, and Salvador Vidal-Ortiz, winners of the 2016 Ruth Benedict Book Prize for Queer Brown Voices.

Former Physics student, Richard Bustos, presented his work "Constraining Theories of Gravity From Light Deviation Experiments" at the American Physics Society meeting held in Salt Lake City, Utah in April. 

This was Bustos second time presenting for the American Physics Society.
