Dr. Trevor Boffone (Spanish 2008) started the successful project and website, The 50 Playwrights Project. This innovative site provides access to Latin@ playwrights and their work. In March 2017 the project awarded 8 unproduced plays for their 2017 List of Best Unproduced Latin@ Plays. This is a major undertaking that helps both the dramatists and the general population connect with these one another. We are proud of you, Dr. Trevor!
Anne-Marie Murat, a research assistant in Dr. Kargol’s Electrophysiology Lab, has been accepted to the LSU Shreveport Medical School. Anne-Marie is a 2016 graduate in Biological Sciences from St. Louis University, Loyola’s sister Jesuit school. A native of New Orleans, Anne-Marie, has worked during 2016-17 academic year as a research assistant in electrophysiology lab in the Physics Department at Loyola.
Dr. Kargol's innovative use of Port-a-Patch technology for teaching undergraduate students ion channel electrophysiology was recently featured in the Nanion newsletter.
Nydia Araya ('17) won the Magis Student Leadership Award in the Category of "Student Employee of the Year" for her work in the Student Success Center. Nydia will be attending Louisiana State University this Fall to receive her Master's degree in Higher Education Administration. Congratulations Nydia!
Kori Doran, BIOL ’20, has been accepted into the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) at UCLA/Charles R. Drew University. This is a free summer program for freshman and sophomore college students interested in the health professions and provides an opportunity to gain exposure to various health professions through shadowing, lectures and lab simulations.
Students of the Loyola University Physics Department recently completed the build of a 16-band audio spectrum analyzer.The goal of project was to build an electronic device that is capable of filtering the frequencies of an audio signal from 20Hz to 20 kHz across 16 channels while displaying the level of each channel on a corresponding 10-segment bar graph. With the assistance of Dr. Rousseau, the students involved in the project were Cody Smith, Andrew Eddins, Coleman Green, Jake Rubin, and William Bagget.
Destiny Karash-Givens, ENVT ’16, will travel to Israel this summer to teach English to elementary-aged students through a program that addresses education inequality by providing underprivileged Israeli students with the opportunity to learn English. She will then travel to Taiwan to teach English and Science during the 2017-18 academic year. Destiny says she wouldn’t have even thought to push herself on these journeys if it wasn’t for her experience and education at Loyola University. She cannot wait to go experience new cultures and continue to set the world on fire!
The Loyola chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma inducted three new members into the honors society on Tuesday, April 25th. The inductees include Cody Smith, Spencer Rosenbohm, David Olivier (not pictured) and physics professor, Tirthabir Biswas.
The SPS honors society is very active within the Loyola physics department and puts on seminars throughout the year with speakers from a wide range of backgrounds and professions who discuss current topics related to physics and other sciences.
Andrea Cornelius, Loyola University '17 Alumna, won the 2016 Southeastern Psychological Association's Graduate Student Research Award for her presentation titled, "Personality Traits and Perceptions of Sexual Infidelity". Cornelius completed her Senior Thesis with Dr. Kim Ernst, Associate Professor of Psychology. She is currently a graduate student at the University of West Florida studying Industrial-Organizational Psychology. She will begin the Ph.D. program in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at St.Louis University this August 2017.
