Achievements

The graduating seniors in Latin American Studies and Spanish presented the results of their Capstone research on 25 April, 2017. The topics varied greatly, but all did their best--¡Felicitaciones!

Senior Theresa Solenski (English Writing/Spanish, with a minor in Biological Sciences, 2017) curated a featured photographic exhibit for the museum of the Meso-American Research Institute at Tulane University. The exhibit will be made public in Fall 2017.

¡Felicitaciones a los nuevos socios de Mu Kappa, capítulo de Sigma Delta Pi! On May 4 and 5, seven students were initiated into the national Spanish honor society (Loyola's Mu Kappa chapter) for excellence in the study of the Spanish language and cultures:

Melanie Sferrazza, Environmental Science Senior received two awards at Loyola Honors Convocation. The Most Outstanding Environment Major Research Award and The Most Outstanding Environment Major Service Award. Congratulations! 

Dr. Trevor Boffone (Spanish 2008) started the successful project and website, The 50 Playwrights Project. This innovative site provides access to Latin@ playwrights and their work. In March 2017 the project awarded 8 unproduced plays for their 2017 List of Best Unproduced Latin@ Plays. This is a major undertaking that helps both the dramatists and the general population connect with these one another. We are proud of you, Dr. Trevor!

The Environment Program would like to congratulate Adrienne Ingram, Environmental Science major, on receiving The Center for Environmental Communication Outstanding Student Award.  

Mr. Mathew Holloway, a 2016 Loyola graduate with a major in Sociology and a Minor in Spanish, has been selected for a 2017-8 Fulbright U.S. Student Award to teach in Panama. See his story here. ¡Felicidades y buena suerte, Mat!
 

The Environment Program would like to congratulate Raechel Stewart, an Environmental minor, on receiving The Rev. Alvin J. Holloway, S.J. Award for Excellence in Philosophy Pre-Law at Honors Convocation this year. 

Anne-Marie Murat, a research assistant in Dr. Kargol’s Electrophysiology Lab, has been accepted to the LSU Shreveport Medical School. Anne-Marie is a 2016 graduate in Biological Sciences from St. Louis University, Loyola’s sister Jesuit school. A native of New Orleans, Anne-Marie, has worked during 2016-17 academic year as a research assistant in electrophysiology lab in the Physics Department at Loyola.

Dr. Kargol's innovative use of Port-a-Patch technology for teaching undergraduate students ion channel electrophysiology was recently featured in the Nanion newsletter.
