Achievements

Six senior research students recently presented their senior theses at the semi-annual Psychology Undergraduate Research Symposium. The Department of Psychological Sciences congratulates our students for their efforts and success!

Philosophy major, Rebekah Locke, recently presented a paper,"What is the Good: An Examination and Comparison of Plato's and G.E. Moore's Theories of the Good" at the Undergraduate Philosophy Conference sponsored by Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Loyola professor of psychology, Janet R. Matthews Ph.D., received the 2011 Louisiana Psychological Association Distinguished Psychologist Award on June 20 for her achievements and contributions to the science and profession of psychology.

The Magazin istoric Foundation awarded Dr. Bernard Cook's "The United States of America and Romania: Diplomatic Relations 1912-1919" the Grigore Gafencu Prize for the best book on Romanian diplomatic history in 2010. Congratulations, Dr. Cook!

James Llorens, an assistant chief administrative officer for Mayor Kip Holden, has been chosen as chancellor of Southern University's Baton Rouge campus.

Holly Gardner, a graduating physics senior, was awarded the prestigious presidential scholarship from George Mason University. Gardner minored in mathematics and computational science.

Graduating senior Elizabeth Kroll (Biological Sciences major and Spanish minor) received one of ten nationally competitive scholarships to study Spanish for four weeks at the Universidad Internacional/The Center for Bilingual Multicultural Studies in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

Graduating senior Winnie Yu (English Writing major and Latin American Studies minor) received one of two nationally competitive scholarships to study Spanish for several weeks over the summer at the Estudio Internacional Sampere in Cuenca, Ecuador.

Alexie Gaddis, junior psychology major, was the recipient of the College Woman of Excellence and Louisiana Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.

Graduating Senior-classman Alexander Fournet will be presented the Reverend Karl Rahner, SJ, Award for the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in the Department of Religious Studies for the 2010-11 school year. The Honors Convocation will take place Friday, May 13th, 2011 at 11am in Roussel Hall.
