Achievements

Kate O'Leary '17 received the Health Services Collegiate Program scholarship and is an active duty E-6 (Petty Officer First Class) in the United States Navy.

SEA Semester is an environment focused program based out of Boston which gives college students the opportunity to sail on one of their ships while conducting scientific research along the way. Sofia's cruise track started in Tahiti and ended in Hawaii, with a few stops at secluded islands along the way.

My official job title at New Harmony High is Operations Coordinator, also known as, Smooth Operator. My main purpose is to support all staff and execute projects, community partnerships, events, parent and student relationships, student clubs and committees, social media, and more.

Loyola Physics senior Sandrine Ferrans was accepted into the highly selective LIGO Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program to pursue research at Caltech over the summer 2018. LIGO stands for the Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory, and Sandrine worked on a project called In-Situ Laser Mode Spectroscopy for Mirror Phase Mapping.

Dr. Don Hauber co-authored an article published in Aquatic Botany entitled “Genomic variation of introduced Salvinia minima in southeastern United States”.

 

In Creole Italian: How Sicilian Immigrants Shaped the Culture of America’s Most Interesting Food Town,  Dr. Justin Nystrom explores the influence Sicilian immigrants have had on New Orleans foodways. His culinary journey follows these immigrants from their first impressions on Louisiana food culture in teh mid-1830's and along their path until the 1970's. Each chapter touches on events that involved Sicilian immigrants and the relevancy of their lives and impact on New Orleans.

Ryan Reso (English 2017) received his TEFL/TESL/TESOL certificate and was able to obtain a position tutoring English in Spain. He studied Spanish at Loyola, missing a minor by only a few classes. Starting in Fall 2018, through the Up International Program, Ryan will assist an English teacher in a secondary school in southern Spain, Nuestra Señora del Águila in Alcalá de Guadaíra in Sevilla, España.

Cullen Lilley (Biology / Music, ’17) is employed as a Microbiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
