Achievements

Mary McCay trained as an Olympic swimmer, but gave it up because she could not read while swimming. Instead, she earned a B.A. (from Catholic University of America), M.A. (from Boston College), & Ph.D. in English (from Tufts University).

Barbara Ewell has published on various topics: Michael Drayton, Kate Chopin, Alice Dunbar-Nelson, southern literature, Louisiana women writers, and most recently, an anthology, Southern Local Color: Tales of Region, Race and Gender.

Peter Santos presented his paper "What is it like to be a dog" at the LSU Philosophy Conference on April 18, 2009.

During the Loyola University New Orleans faculty and staff spring convocation on Jan. 23, the University Faculty Senate honored four of its colleagues with prestigious awards.

Andrew Macdonald publishes extensively in the criticism of popular fiction and film. He has written a book on Howard Fast and is co-author of Shapeshifiting and Shaman or Sherlock? He has, with Gina Macdonald, just edited Jane Austen on Screen.

The Big Easy Entertainment Awards has tapped playwright John Biguenet, a professor of Loyola University New Orleans, as the inaugural Theatre Person of the Year.

Sarah White '09 is a recent graduate of the Psychology pre-med program at Loyola. During her time at Loyola, she volunteered for the American Red Cross and the Katrina Relief Service (including work with the Loyola University Community Action Program).

Mary Kate Delaney, a senior in History, will be heading off next month to the Phi Alpha Theta conference at Northwestern State University to present a paper entitled “A Pope of Great Words: Innocent III and His Writings.”

Darryl J. Mayeaux, Ph.D., received his B.A. from Loyola in 1988 and his PhD from the University of California, Davis in 1996. He is currently an associate professor at St. Bonaventure University.
