Achievements

On Friday, September 21, 2018, Dr. Nathan Henne gave the inaugural presentation for the new Loyola Faculty and Staff Seminar Series, "Encountering Heritage and History." His talk, "(Dis)Respecting Sovereignty: US Interference in Central American and the Current Migration Crisis," in the Whitney Presentation Room of Thomas Hall was a huge success--the room was packed and all were fascinated with the facts presented and the images projected by Dr. Henne.

Congratulations to Abby Perez (BIOL'20) and Ella Hall (ENVB'19) for receiving the Loyola Strength in Diversity grant to fund the Late Nights at Loyola events that they will co-direct this academic year.  We would love for all of you to come see what our students are doing to make a difference with kids who attend Anna's Place, a non-profit organization that aims to enrich inner city, economically disadvantaged, at-risk youth in the Nola area.

Kate O'Leary '17 received the Health Services Collegiate Program scholarship and is an active duty E-6 (Petty Officer First Class) in the United States Navy.

My official job title at New Harmony High is Operations Coordinator, also known as, Smooth Operator. My main purpose is to support all staff and execute projects, community partnerships, events, parent and student relationships, student clubs and committees, social media, and more.

SEA Semester is an environment focused program based out of Boston which gives college students the opportunity to sail on one of their ships while conducting scientific research along the way. Sofia's cruise track started in Tahiti and ended in Hawaii, with a few stops at secluded islands along the way.

Dr. Don Hauber co-authored an article published in Aquatic Botany entitled “Genomic variation of introduced Salvinia minima in southeastern United States”.

 

Loyola Physics senior Sandrine Ferrans was accepted into the highly selective LIGO Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program to pursue research at Caltech over the summer 2018. LIGO stands for the Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory, and Sandrine worked on a project called In-Situ Laser Mode Spectroscopy for Mirror Phase Mapping.
