Sofia Giordano, ENVB '20 spent one month over the summer 2018 participating in the study abroad program SEA Semester.

SEA Semester is an environment focused program based out of Boston which gives college students the opportunity to sail on one of their ships while conducting scientific research along the way. Sofia's cruise track started in Tahiti and ended in Hawaii, with a few stops at secluded islands along the way. This particular cruise track's focus was to study the coral reefs along the Pacific Ocean and how they are recuperating from the El Nino event two years ago. Sofia also conducted a separate research project where she studied the abundance of plastics (and microplastics) in the ocean relative to the distance from land.   If you would like more information about this program, Sofia would be happy to talk to you.  You may email her at
