On December 1, 2016, Patricia Boyett, the Director of Loyola's Women's Resource Center led a group of faculty and students to De La Salle High School in New Orleans as part of an educational celebration of Malala Yousafzai, the co-recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. Boyett and Dr. Leonard Kahn (philosophy) spoke to the entire De La Salle student body about feminism, women's rights, and women's education. Loyola students Tess Rowland, Victoria Williams, and Hannah Castillo also participated, with Tess performing an oral history of “Becky,” an intimate partner violence survivor in the US, Victoria performing an oral history of “Amina,” a women in Afghanistan in a forced marriage, and all three helping with visual aids made by the student staff of the Women's Resource Center. Dr. Valerie Goertzen (music), the co-director of Loyola's Women's Studies Program was also in attendance and assisted the De La Salle students paint their hand prints on a sign that read "I Am Malala, De La Salle High School."
