Foundation promotes Charles Heim, '69

The Loyola Philosophy Department is pleased to announce the creation of “Big Ideas for Little Kids,” a philosophy education program aimed at elementary aged school children.  Once a week for a period of six weeks, six Loyola undergraduate students, along with Dr. Jon Altschul of the Philosophy Department, attended the Good Shepherd School to work with their third grade class of 15 children.  The class was divided into two groups, and each group began by reading a story centered on some philosophical theme. 

A paper by Cailyn Flynn on David Foster Wallace's This is Water, written for Professor Shelly Taylor's Critical Reading & Writing course, has been accepted for publication at Elephant Journal.

Sociology professor Dr. Jaita Talukdar published a book chapter titled, "The Before-And-After Template: Researching and Reflecting on Body Image Concerns in Globalizing India” in an edited volume on beauty practices across local contexts called "Global Beauty, Local Bodies."

English Writing alumnus and former faculty member Martin Pousson ’94 was awarded a 2014 National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowship. His former student, Catherine Lacey ‘07, has a burgeoning writing career of her own.

On Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 12:30pm Dr. Philip Dynia will present his research entitled, "Shaping our Contestable Constitution: The Bill of Rights and the States".  

Raycom Media has named Sandy Breland '83 vice president and general manager of WVUE New Orleans.

Martin Pousson, (’93) has been awarded a 2014 NEA Creative Writing Fellowship in Prose. The honor, which includes a $25,000 grant, is in support of “Black Sheep Boy,” a collection of short stories.
