Dr. Joel MacClellan (Philosophy faculty 2014-present, Ph.D. University of Tennessee, 2012). Professor MacClellan teaches courses such as Environmental Ethics and the Philosophy of Science at Loyola. His recent research is in the ethics of conservation biology, and his recent talks include an argument that wild animals’ have limited privacy rights which can be violated through documentary filmmaking, zoo cameras, wildlife tracking, etc., and the view that an animal rights perspective is compatible with invasive species management.

Dr. Kate Yurgil's review article on the research of music training and brain rhythms that support important cognitive functions like working memory was published on the "Frontiers of Psychology" on the 21st of February, 2020. Mona Wolfe, Office Manager of Physics and Biological Sciences, is named Staff Employee of the Month for March 2020.
Allie Belcher, Environmental Studies minor, is spending the spring semester at the St. Eustatia Center for Archaeological Research in the Caribbean going out into the field and digging in areas to find artifacts that can tell us something about the history of the island. Once they properly collected artifacts, they then catalogue them by recording their context and identifying each item. From there, they can either reaffirm what is known about St. Eustatius’ history or create a new story altogether.

Every year, Loyola's undergraduate students travel to the Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP). This annual conference, organized by the American Physical Society, takes place in January on various campuses across the country. Our students present their research and participate in various activities.
Dr. Mark Yakich received the Dux Academicus award at the January 2020 President's Convocation. This is the highest faculty award presented by Loyola University New Orleans. It honors achievements in scholarship, teaching, and service.
Dr. Elin Grissom was honored with the "University Senate Award for Excellence in Research" at the Spring 2020 President Convocation on January 17. Her accomplishments leading up to the award include her ongoing research in stress, hormones, learning, and memory, as well as the publication of her most recent two peer-reviewed papers over the last year and seventeen research-related papers she has written over the past few years.
