Achievements

The latest play by Chair of the English Department, John Biguenet, called "Broomstick" is receiving rave reviews in both New Orleans and Los Angeles, the two cities in which the play is running concurrently.

Political science students Thanh Mai, Daija Smith, and Emma Woidtke, along with instructor Dr. Chris Wiseman, visited the new slavery museum at the Whitney Plantation, just west of New Orleans.  The museum is being built by Loyola alumnus John Cummings (Law 1961).  The new museum has received media attention from The New York Times and The New Orleans Advocate.

Dr. Connie Rodriguez received the 2014 Foot Soldier Award of the Archaeological Institute of America recognizing over 20 years of service to the New Orleans Society.

Loyola School of Mass Communication Junior Graham Blackall is turning his passion for food and fashion into a successful internship and jobs.

Political Science Alumnus Gary Segura '85 and his co-author Matt Barretto recently published a book entitled: "Latino America: How America's Most Dynamic Population is Poised to Transform the Politics of the Nation" and spoke about it on cable network MSNBC. 

School of Mass Communications senior Lucy Dieckhaus received the Robert D.G. Lewis First Amendment Award September 5th from the Society of Professional Journalists.

The Honorable Robin D. Pittman, Sociology 1991 and J.D. 1996, serves on the Loyola University College of Law Alumni Board of Directors and was also appointed by the chief justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court to the Louisiana Judicial College Board of Governors.

The Honorable Jules D. Edwards III was elected vice chair of the Judiciary Commission of Louisiana.

Natalie Jones (Theatre Arts/Spanish 2014) received the Magis Outstanding Achievement in Service Learning Award in May 2014 for her work with Project Lazarus. ¡Felicitaciones, Natalia!

Loyola University New Orleans English professor and human trafficking expert Laura Murphy, Ph.D., has won an international award for her outstanding African literary studies work culminating in her book, “Metaphor and the Slave Trade in West African Literature.” Murphy received the inaugural African Literature Association First Book Award last month.
