A goal of the Documentary and Oral History studio is to be able to serve as a resource for Loyola scholars who have an interest in incorporating video recorded oral history interviews as part of their research agenda or who are interested in producing documentary films. There are three specific ways in which the Studio can help:
1) In the planning stages of a research project, the studio director can help faculty craft a plausible budget narrative and plan of execution. As an active partner, the studio will be able to lend the weight of its experience and accomplishments to grant proposals.
2) Through expertise and cultivating a strong working relationship with Loyola University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB), the Studio director will help faculty navigate the regulatory and ethical requirements associated with oral history, allowing scholars to spend more of their time focusing on their field of interest.
3) Having secured funding, scholars may turn to the studio as a full-featured resource for implementing their research agenda, relying upon trained Loyola student employees to see that their interviews are properly filmed, edited, transcribed, and archived.
