Core Biology Curriculum

Includes: Cells & Heredity lec. & lab, Biol. of Organisms lec. & lab, Ecology & Evolution

Taken as a whole, the core courses provided a good solid base of objective knowledge and skills
The core courses "fit together" well - that is, the knowledge and skills learned early in the curriculum helped prepare for later core courses.
The core courses are adequate in scope - that is, there is no need to expand the content of current courses or to add additional core courses.
Several of the core courses have laboratory and field experiences. These experiences were effective aids to learning biology.
Elective Biology Curriculum

Includes: Anatomy & Physiology, Animal Behavior, Aquatic Microbiology, Biology of Fishes, Cell Biology, Comparative Anatomy, Conservation Biology, Developmental Biology, Ecology, Genetic Analysis, Histology, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, Population Genetics, LUMCON courses, and others.

The selection of elective courses was satisfactory.
The scheduling of elective courses, in terms of both the frequency they were offered and the time slots in which they were placed, was satisfactory.
The knowledge and skills learned in the core curriculum were adequate preparation for the elective courses.
The elective curriculum adequately serviced pre-professional and career needs.
The laboratories in the elective curriculum were important aids in learning biology in these courses and integrated well with the lectures.
The Biology Research Seminar Series was an effective means of enriching general knowledge of biology and should remain a fixture in the department.
