Achievements

Valerie Andrews, assistant professor at the School of Mass Communication, will lead the School’s Shawn M. Donnelley Center, a one-stop shop for city nonprofits interested in getting public relations assistance for their efforts.

It's football season once more, and Loyola grad Michael Smith ('01) is covering the NFL for ESPN as a reporter for the TV sports network. A graduate of Loyola's School of Mass Communication, Smith started out covering sports for the Times-Picayune before heading north.  

Emmy-Award winning journalist and Loyola University New Orleans alumnus Tom Llamas '01, was recently named the anchor of WNBC's 5 p.m. newscast in New York City, the nation's largest media market.

Bob Thomas, Ph.D., has been named a "Great Gentleman" by the East Jefferson General Hospital Auxiliary for his "outstanding contributions to the community through volunteerism." 

Dr. David Myers served as a Keynote Speaker at the 5th International interdisciplinary conference on Philosophy of Computer Games on April 6-9 in Athens, Greece. 

Alumna Frances Rios published her first book entitled, "The Glue Factor:Giving Presentations That Make Your Messages Stick."

After a year of hard work, The Maroon was awarded the prestigious Mark of Excellence Award for best all-around non-daily student newspaper in the region by the Society of Professional Journalists. 

Dr. Cathy Rogers was promoted to Professor by the Loyola University New Orleans Office of the Provost.

Junior Alexandra Ernst was awarded a GOLD ADDY at the Student ADDY Awards Competition presented by the American Advertising Federation.
