Loyola students enrolled last fall in History A404: “New Orleans Stories” became the first class to participate in the university’s revived and modernized oral history program. Teaming up with International Longshoremen’s Association Local 300, the students filmed high-quality interviews with retired dockworkers who described their careers on the city’s once-bustling waterfront. In March, 2013, students from this class will present the results of this project at the annual meeting of the Southern Labor Studies Association where they will screen a documentary short culled from the over six hours of high-quality filmed oral history interviews.
