An important goal of the Documentary and Oral History Studio is collaborative research that brings faculty and students together with community partners. In the fall of 2012, the DOHS founded a partnership with Edgar “Dooky” Chase, III to record the memories of longtime employees and customers of the storied Dooky Chase Restaurant. Loyola freshmen participate in these interviews through the university’s innovative First Year Seminar course, where they learn to conceptualize, plan, and film professional-quality interviews. In the summer of 2014, the studio will work with Loyola students and other university partners to produce a feature-length documentary film that incorporates these student-filmed interviews.
