This summer, Christopher Schaberg, in collaboration with Ian Bogost of Georgia Tech, launched a new book and essay series called Object Lessons, published by The Atlantic and Bloomsbury Press. The series features pithy public intellectual essays on ordinary objects, and beautifully designed short books on single topics, from shitake mushrooms to short ribs, concrete blocks to Kryptonite.
The first book in the series is on Remote Controls, and is being written by Caetlin Benson-Allott of Georgetown University. Loyola's own John Biguenet is also working on a project for the series, on Silence. You can follow the endlessly amusing twitter feed for the project under the handle @objectsobjects.
