Critical thinking and practical experiences
The goal of the Department of English is to provide English majors with a comprehensive program that affords them the opportunity to read and think critically, to write coherently, and to understand the variety of periods, genres, media, and cultures covered in the three concentrations (literature, writing, and film and digital media) in the department.
Loyola's English department offers small classes taught by award winning professors. The English program also boasts opportunities for students to work on publications, from the internationally distributed New Orleans Review and the Object Lessons book series to the student-run Critical and Creative Arts Publication. Internships at magazines, businesses, schools, and online services give students on-the-job experience that prepares them for meaningful, rewarding professional lives.
