Biology alumnus Troy Thayer '15 recently received a scholarship to attend the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.
Thayer was awarded the the Ivy League school's "Dean's Scholarship," which is the largest scholarship the University of Pennsylvania awards in its dental school and is worth $80,000. The scholarship is extremely competitive and is awarded based on academic performance and achievement, a broad range of intellectual interests, demonstrated leadership, commitment to interests other than academic work and unique life experiences that may contribute to a dental career.
Thayer graduated from Loyola with a bachelor of science in biological sciences and a double minor in mathematics and chemistry. A native of Tacoma, Washington, he was active in many on-campus activities while a student at Loyola. He was the founder of Loyola's Swimming Club and worked to get the sport approved for varsity-level competition. He was also a founding member of the Phi Eta branch of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and participated in Concert Band, TriBeta, Pi Mu Epsilon Math Club, Cross Country, and First in the Pack.
