How long have you been at Loyola? 9 years (!!)

Favorite thing about Loyola or teaching? Definitely Loyola's student body. Loyola students are bright, socially aware individuals who care about making a positive impact in their community. Coming to work and engaging with them every day is such a joy.

Student Alanna Olsen selected as a recipient of a 2023 Sigma Delta Pi Undergraduate Study Abroad Award

Senior Alanna Olsen has been selected as a recipient of a 2023 Sigma Delta Pi Undergraduate Study Abroad Award! Alanna Olsen is also the current President of Loyola University's chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, a national Spanish Honor Society.

Dr. Denney published his textbook (alongside co-author Dr. Allen Copenhaver) Media & Crime: Contemporary Issues with Kendall Hunt publishing.

This book offers an in-depth discussion of contemporary crime and media issues. Specifically, this book is the first of its kind to examine crime and media issues from a modern and approachable standpoint. Moreover, this book heavily focuses on how various forms of media interact with the three components of the criminal justice system (e.g., law enforcement, courts, and corrections). Topics in this book include:

· Crime Construction and Real-World Effects

· Crime Perceptions and Fear of Crime

· Dramatization

Dr. Denney presented his most recent research “Autism Spectrum Disorder Awareness, Advocacy, and Information (or the lack thereof?) on Law Enforcement Websites with his co-author Dr. Allen Copenhaver at the annual Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences

In the wake of the catastrophic train derailment and subsequent chemical spill in East Palestine,
Prof. Robert Verchick appeared on WWL on February 27th to advocate for modern rail safety measures.

Dr. Jamileh Beik Mohammadi, an Assistant Professor and the Associate Chair of the Physics Department, has received the 2023 Faculty Senate Award for Excellence in Teaching.

College of Arts and Sciences Senate’s Research Award for 2023

Dr. Madison Silverstein, Psychology, College of Arts and Sciences has expanded her research to address the psychological effects of the COVID pandemic and how it has impacted those with pre-existing mental and physical health issues, as well as now supervising a student’s research regarding the residual cognitive 'fog' that COVID sufferers have reported.
