Our Mission

This is what we do

The mission of the Physics Department at Loyola University New Orleans is to offer our students an excellent science education: a challenging curriculum taught in small classes by a dedicated faculty. The faculty is accessible and interested in their students. We promote physics through active involvement in research and through service to the community.

Starting in her junior year, physics major Emily Drabek was awarded a Clare Booth Luce Scholarship for her undergraduate studies. Emily, winner of the department’s Karl A. Maring Award, attended a summer Research Experience for Undergraduates program at the University of Chicago in 2008. She worked on a project to study the variability of quasar absorption lines. Now in her senior year at Loyola, Emily is working on a senior thesis on general relativity with Carl Brans.
