Nutrition Challenge Exam

The Loyola faculty recognizes that RN students typically have nutrition content in their associate degree or diploma nursing programs. A student who does not have transfer credit for BIOL 335 Nutrition may elect to challenge the course if the student needs the 3 semester credit hours earned from the challenge to fulfill degree requirements (i.e., the student does not have 120 semester credits). Students who do not need the additional 3 semester credit hours receive an automatic waiver of this requirement.

Policies and procedures for challenging BIOL 335 Normal Nutrition follow:

  1. Obtain a copy of the “Credit by Departmental Examination” request form and challenge exam guidelines for BIOL 335 Nutrition from the Nursing Office or download both from the BSN Student Site on Blackboard. Once in the BSN Student Site on Blackboard, click on “BSN Documents” and then click on the “Credit by Challenge Examination” folder.
  2. Submit the “Credit by Departmental Examination” request form to: Director, School of Nursing., Loyola University New Orleans, 6363 St. Charles Avenue, Box 45, New Orleans, LA 70118. The form must be received no later than two weeks before the scheduled exam.
  3. The BIOL 335 Nutrition challenge exam may be taken only once. The passing grade is 60%.
  4. Following a successful challenge, “AP” is posted on the student transcript in lieu of a grade from BIOL 335.
  5. The student will be billed $20 for posting the “AP” (advanced placement) designation on the transcript. There is no other fee for this challenge examination.
  6. Challenge exams are given at the following times: 2 p.m. on the last Tuesday in January, 2 p.m. on the last Tuesday in June, and 2 p.m. on the last Tuesday in August.
