Upon entering the BSN Program, each student will be assigned a faculty advisor who will be available to discuss academic progress and assist with registration each semester. A student’s faculty advisor may be identified by logging on to LORA, the Loyola records access system. Note: Office staff are not considered academic advisors.
Specifically, faculty advisors will assist the student by:
- Providing any needed clarification regarding course registration.
- Providing guidance when adjustments in the planned program are needed (i.e., dropping or adding courses, leave of absence, etc.).
- The student’s role in the advisement process is to schedule a meeting (in person, or via phone or e-mail) with the faculty advisor each semester during early registration. Students who have difficulty contacting their advisor should contact the Director of the School of Nursing for assistance (504-865-3142).
New Orleans students: To find an advisor’s phone number and e-mail address, go to the School of Nursing website.Baton Rouge students: Call the Loyola Site Coordinator in Baton Rouge for an appointment (225-381-6895).
Distance Learning Students: Prior to early registration, DL students will receive an advising form from the assigned advisor indicating preferred courses in which to enroll for the upcoming semester. DL students make enrollment choices based on the advisor’s recommendations.
- Register for courses electronically using LORA.
- Follow guidelines outlined in this Handbook for requesting exceptions to standard School of Nursing policies and procedures.
- Learn about the requirements of the BSN Program and the RN-to-MSN program found both in this Handbook and the Loyola University Undergraduate Bulletin, so that appropriate decisions may be made.
