Elizabeth Watkins received her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. She specializes in the study of medieval literature and culture, particularly the development and transmission of romances in Britain and what these texts can reveal about medieval perceptions of genre, translation practices, multilingualism, and cultural exchange. Her current book project, entitled Romancing the Text: Romance as Translation in Medieval England, frames romance as both a linguistic and a literary genre through an examination of translations of Latin saints’ lives and their motifs into vernacular French and Middle English hagiographies and romances. Her other research interests include depictions of homesickness in medieval literature and medievalism in Southeast Asia.
