Numerical equivalents to letter grades are set by individual faculty. In keeping with Loyola University policy, faculty are required to publish, in the course syllabus, evaluation methods to be used to determine a student’s course grade. Thus, numerical equivalents to letter grades for each course will be found in the respective course syllabi. Individual course syllabi indicate the portion of the final grade attributed to various grading components. Loyola University uses the following grading scale:
A = Excellent 4.0
B+ = Very Good 3.5
B = Good 3.0
C+ = Minimal 2.5
C = Minimal 2.0
D+ = Not Acceptable 1.5
D = Not Acceptable 1.0
F = Failure
I = Incomplete (See Important Note)
Important Notes: An “I” (incomplete grade) automatically converts to an “F” if work is not complete by dates specified in the University calendar (http://loyno.edu/records/academic.calendar). The minimum acceptable grade in any nursing course is a “D.” However, a student must have a “C” average in the nursing major at the time of graduation.
