BSN applicants may be fully admitted, admitted as transient students, or admitted on provisional basis.
Transient Student Status
A student will be fully admitted as a degree-seeking student only after official transcripts from each of the colleges and universities attended have been received by Loyola University New Orleans from Nursing CAS. Until this requirement is met, the student will be classified as a transient student.
A transient student can enroll in courses by presenting a current RN license at registration; however:
A student may be classified as transient for only one semester.
- Transient students are not eligible for federal financial aid.
- Transient students are not permitted to register for subsequent semesters until their status is changed to degree seeking (upon submission of all certified transcripts through Nursing CAS).
Provisonal Admission
The RN student whose grade point average is lower than that required for general admission (2.00) will be admitted on a provisional basis and allowed to register for courses. Successful completion of two semesters with a satisfactory grade point average of 2.0 (“C”) or better will remove probationary status.
Transfer Credits
RN transcripts are individually assessed to permit maximum transfer of university credits where compatible with Loyola courses. Credit for lower division nursing (i.e., adult health, parent-child health, mental health) is awarded by validation of transfer credit for associate degree graduates or validation of advanced placement credit for diploma nursing school graduates. The last 30 credits hours must be completed from the Loyola University New Orleans curriculum. Based on the transcript evaluation, each student is able to develop a progression plan that meets personal needs. Faculty advisors assist in developing an individualized plan for completion of the BSN degree. Since progression plans are individualized, each student is allowed to pursue the BSN degree at a pace that best suits the student.
Licensure Requirements
Each student must sign a declaration stating that she/he has a current, unencumbered, unrestricted, and valid registered nurse license and there are no grounds for disciplinary proceedings. If at any point during the program a student’s R.N. license becomes encumbered or restricted, the student is obligated to immediately inform the director of the School of Nursing
