Gary S. Mathews, M.Ed. ’79, has retired after 21 years as a school superintendent in Florida, Louisiana, Missouri, Texas, Virginia, and Georgia. Dr. Mathews was the 2012 Georgia Outstanding Leader in School-Community Relations, the 2007 Virginia Curriculum Leader of the Year, the 2006 TEC Leadership Award recipient from the Congressional Black Caucus, the 1998 Louisiana Superintendent of the Year, and the 1996 Louisiana Communicator of the Year. He lives in Baton Rouge.
