Gauthier-St. Martin Eminent Scholar and Chair in Environmental Law Robert R. M. Verchick published an op-ed June 2018 for the Los Angeles Times that ran under the headline “Not Content with his War on Science, Scott Pruitt is Now Waging a War on Economics.” Click here for a read.

Vacationers heading to the Florida beaches will want to view WVUE Fox 8 News for a word of caution from Dr. Aimée Thomas.  Thomas spoke to the public about so-called “sea lice,” jellyfish larvae that can cause a sting when trapped beneath your bathing suit.

Congratulations to our Environmental students that received awards at this years Honors Convocation ceremony.  

The Environment Program 

Hope Clark, ENVS won the Most Outstanding Environment Major Service Award - given to an environment major for excellence in service.

Adrienne Ingram, ENVB won the Most Outstanding Environment Major Research Award - given to an environment major for excellence in research. 

Leigh Adrienne Ingram, known on campus as Adrienne, graduates cum laude on Saturday with a double major in environmental science and religious studies (Christianity). At Loyola, she has served as a biological research assistant, assisting with research and managing the university's aquatic ecology lab; she has also worked as a special projects assistant for the Loyola Center for Environmental Communication, where she co-authored two professional presentations. Ingram this year received a Magis grant, designed to foster the Jesuit and Catholic mission of Loyola University New Orleans.

Andrew Harper received the “Outstanding Junior Student Leader” award 2017-2018. This award is presented to a member of the Junior class for exceptional performance in demonstrating leadership on campus.

Dr. Paul W. Barnes, J.H. Mullahy Endowed Chair in Environmental Biology, and Dr. Susanne Neugart, Postdoctoral Researcher in Biology, recently attended a network meeting of the International Association of Plant UV Research (UV4Plants) held in Bled, Slovenia from April 15-18.  Scientists and students from 20 countries (mostly in Europe) attended this conference to learn about recent research aimed at better understanding how ultraviolet radiation in sunlight influences plants and ecosystems.  Dr.
