On March 30, 2023, Dr. Elizabeth Watkins gave a talk entitled "Joan of Arc: The Maid of New Orleans" at Country Day High School. The lecture explored the place of Joan of Arc, the warrior-saint who broke the English siege on the French city of Orléans during the Hundred Years' War, as part of the medievalisms of New Orleans culture. She focused primarily on the Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc and how its parade reframes Joan as a patron saint of New Orleans, particularly in light of her usage elsewhere as a rallying figure for white supremacist causes.
